 The importance of annual testing
 4-21-08 - Article #9
Anyone who loves his/her pet would do just about anything to keep it healthy and happy. The good news is that pets are now living longer and nothing contributes more to the long life of our beloved animals than the regular visits to the veterinarian. Dogs and cats age faster than we do, so healthy problems may develop rapidly, especially in older animals. Catching small problems before they became mayor medical conditions is the primary goal. Along with a detailed medical history and a thorough physical examination, your veterinarian will order diagnostic testing that can detect the onset of diseases and conditions early, when treatment and prevention are most effective. Some of the diseases your veterinarian will be able of detect using these tests are: anemia, cancer, diabetes, infectious and inflammatory conditions and diseases of the heart, intestines, kidneys, liver, pancreas and thyroid gland. Routine testing combined with annual exams can reassure you of your pet’s continued good health or help your veterinarian begin treatment early. This knowledge gives you and your dog a formidable advantage over diseases. Dr. Julio Tejedor
