 Laser Surgery
 7-18-08 - Article #11
Article #11 Co2 lasers have been successfully used in human surgery for over 30 years. They are now an exciting new form of surgical treatment in animals that can replace the scalpel and provide a better alternative to traditional surgery. Laser surgery has many advantages over traditional surgery: ▪ Less pain: It seals nerve endings as it cuts tissues, causing much less postoperative pain. ▪ Less bleeding: The laser beam seals small blood vessels during surgery, preventing tissue bleeding, shortening the length of many procedures and reducing the need for anesthesia. ▪ Less swelling: only a beam of very intense light contacts the tissue, minimizing tissue swelling. ▪ Shorter hospitalization time: less pain, less bleeding, less swelling and shorter anesthesia time means quicker recovery and shorter hospitalization required. Besides to all these advantages, laser surgery is the preferred option for many surgeries that are very difficult to perform using traditional surgery as: elongated soft palate, stenotic nares, oral and ear canal tumors, lick granulomas, etc. Less discomfort, faster recovery means better quality of life for your pet.
